Based on the latest findings, imaging of active HIV-1 infection in gastrointestinal-associated lymphoid tissue using a three-dimensional electron microscope can reveal the key distinction between HIV-1 and cultured cell-tissue infection models. Using a three-dimensional electron microscope, the researchers looked at the active HIV-1 infection in the gastrointestinal tract of mice with a humanized immune system, creating a model of the interaction between the virus and host immune cells. The researchers observed depletion of humanized immune T cells in the gastrointestinal tract-associated lymphoid tissue of mice and detected
