The reform of “Novel Monthly” in the early 1920s is a major event in the history of literature. Most of the important articles of the reform are compiled or autobiographed by Zheng Zhenduo. They can not count the innovation of the journal as one of Mao Dun’s achievements. Zheng Zhenduo is actually a more important hero behind the scenes. The magazine’s “Declaration of Change,” Zheng Zhenduo at least also participated in the comments. In the two years as chief editor of Mao Dun, it is also true that Zheng Zhenduo is an unnamed associate editor. When Zheng Zhenduo went abroad to take refuge, Ye Shengtao had acted as editor of the journal, but there was an article that delayed and extended the time of his compilation for nine months. Literature Research Association was established, Zheng Zhenduo is the core figure, and later has always been the most important commander. Someone has long ago counted that the major writers of the Literary Research Association published and created the most works in the publications run by the Association, that is, Zheng Zhenduo.
