A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner tells a sad story of Miss Emily, who is the last of Griersons family. Alive, Miss Emily is always silent and quiet. But when she dies, people in town find a skeleton on her bed in her house. A rose is offered in the story’s title while nothing concerning the rose is mentioned all through the story. After a careful and thorough study, a conclusion can be drawn, that is, the rose is for the love that Miss Emily deserves but fails to obtain and to symbolize Miss Emily’s silence, purity, secret and sin.
