梳篦业曾经是常州人的支柱产业,这个曾经距今并不太久,确切讲来,上世纪70年代的常州西门外,家庭作坊比比皆是。如新闸镇(今常州市钟楼区新闸街道),基本上人们种红萝卜之余就是做篦子;在西林乡(今常州市钟楼区西林街道),农闲时候农户们纷纷寻门路接制梳的活做;五星乡、永红乡(今常州市钟楼区五星街道、永红街道)这些郊区的农户,家家户户制作梳篦,至今仍有不少人家尚存昔日的手工制作工具。
