南戏科举题材的作品十分丰富。剧作大多从备考、赴考、考试、及第四个阶段,全景式地展现男主人公的科举活动,并提炼出一套舞台表演模式,体现出高度程式化的特征。这种情节与表演模式,旨在通过调剂冷热场面、均衡脚色分工,有效地烘托南戏的舞台表演。同时,还深刻折射了世人唯科举是崇的普遍心态,一些科举戏或科举出目,还因此发展成为具有仪式意味的喜庆表演。
South opera subjects are very rich works.
