Yang Shangkun is a legendary revolutionary whose life has been integrated with the history of the Chinese Communist Party. Among the leading comrades who held the highest posts in the party and the country, Yang Shangkun was the only one who published diaries behind him. This diary a total of 1.1 million words, starting and ending time for the January 1, 1949 to December 10, 1965, the time span of “Cultural Revolution” a full 17 years before. During these 17 years, he served successively as Deputy Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Deputy Secretary-General of the Central Military Commission, member of the Central Committee of the CPC and alternate secretary of the Central Secretariat, and director of the Central Office.
