The Chinese theater in Singapore has always been deeply influenced by China, a relationship that has maintained since the start of a new drama in the 1920s. Before the mid-1970s, politically oriented theater and theater people had reached a peak in terms of the amount of theater activities and audiences. But for the next dozen or so years, the Chinese theater in Singapore was at a low ebb.
