Objective: To observe the changes of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in children with incomplete Kawasaki disease and to explore its value in the diagnosis of incomplete Kawasaki disease. Methods: Thirty cases of Kawasaki disease and 28 cases of Kawasaki disease were selected. Plasma VEGF levels were measured before and after treatment by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Twenty-three normal controls VEGF plasma levels of children, for any comparison, while children with Kawasaki disease acute cardiac echocardiography. Results: The plasma levels of VEGF in incomplete Kawasaki disease group were significantly higher than those in typical Kawasaki disease group before and after treatment. The plasma VEGF levels in incomplete Kawasaki disease and Kawasaki disease group were significantly higher than those in normal control group before and after treatment. Kawasaki disease with coronary artery lesions plasma VEGF levels were significantly higher than those without coronary artery lesions. Conclusion: VEGF may be involved in the pathogenesis of incomplete Kawasaki disease, which may be helpful for the early diagnosis and treatment of incomplete Kawasaki disease.
