Language “is an important part of human culture” written into the language curriculum standards. There is a variety of arguments for such a claim. “Culture” is too thick, too broad and too open to construct a “language culture” as an “important part of human culture.” We also have too much thinking. This issue hopes to stand on the perspective of thinking and contrast the language and culture. We invited several first-line teachers from Shandong Province to describe their “cultural” thinking. They are: Shi Jianshe, Zhang Yanshui, Zhang Shixin of Beizhen Middle School in Shandong Province, Wen Defeng of Shandong Rizhao Experimental High School. Let’s take a look at what kind of cultural state a language is in the eyes of the front-line teachers.
