Hong Kong supermarkets have existed for more than 40 years and experienced three stages of introduction, accelerated development and maturity. In terms of time span, the introductory phase lasted the longest, from the early 1950s to the early 1970s. During this time, the development of Hong Kong supermarkets was very much like the situation when the mainland China introduced the supermarkets in the early 1980s: intermittent and slow to develop. Most of the supermarkets that were piloted in the early 1950s were closed after they were put on trial for a period of time due to poor management. The reason is mainly when
