1948年12月18日,在解放战争的平津战役取得重大胜利的形势下,由于平津已迫近解放,新华总社派出范长江、徐迈进为首的先遣队20多人,离开河北省平山县西柏坡,前往北平西南郊区的良乡,接受平津战役的报道任务,并准备进城接管国民党的新闻机构,同时筹备办理新华社迁社事宜。
