In the first class of Chinese language classes for freshmen, I told them two stories: Story 1: The psychologist Rosenthal and his aides came to a primary school, claiming to select the best students from among them. Then he gave the teacher a list of randomly selected “most promising people” in an admirable tone and told them to keep them confidential. A few months of follow-up surveys found that students who had been on the list had noticeably improved their studies and had performed very well in all aspects. Story Two: In a kindergarten, the teacher sends a sugar to each of the children in the classroom and tells them that the teacher will leave for a while
