Objective To investigate the clinical effects of different total dentures in the treatment of patients with severe tooth alveolar ridge absorption. Methods Ninety-four patients selected from our hospital from March 2012 to March 2014 for severe alveolar ridge absorption without tooth decay were retrospectively analyzed and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 47 cases in each group. The control group produced anatomic bite-type complete dentures, and the observation group produced long median bite-type complete dentures. The chewing efficiency and patient satisfaction after wearing were observed in two groups. Results There was no significant difference in masticatory efficiency between two groups at different time points (P> 0.05). However, the satisfaction rate in the observation group was 91.49%, which was significantly higher than that in the control group (76.60%, P < 0.05). Conclusion In the treatment of patients with severe alveolar crest-free tooth decay, the use of long median bite-type complete dentures can effectively improve the masticatory function of patients with high comfort and aesthetics, which is worthy of clinical application.
