打倒“四人邦”以后,歌颂杨开慧的戏剧作品,如同绚丽的山花竞相开放。它是当前阶级斗争、路线斗争的产物,是全国人民仇恨“四人邦”、深切怀念毛主席的战友和夫人杨开慧烈士的情感的体现。其中有些作品,如我们看到的湖南省长沙市歌剧团的歌剧《骄杨》、中国京剧团的京剧《蝶恋花》、中央戏剧学院的话剧《杨开慧》等,都比较成功地塑造了杨开慧的艺术形象,对于革命历史剧的创作,提供了值得重视的经验。在符合历史真实的基础上,进行艺术创造开慧烈士是群众崇敬而又熟悉的历史人物,因此,对于描写杨开慧的戏剧作品,要求也就更高。戏剧不是传记,不能把杨开慧一生的事迹原封不动地搬上午台。戏剧要求有尖锐的戏剧冲突,必须对生活素材集中提炼,允许并且必须有艺术的想象和虚构;然而又不能为了“戏剧性”而把不符合杨开慧思想品质、个性特征的描写加到她的身上。在时代气氛、人物性格以及重要的情节上,
