Composite materials based on molybdenum silicide (MoSi2) are the new choice for high temperature structure. Intermetallic compounds have a high melting point (2030 ° C) and oxidation resistance is almost as good as that of silicon carbide (SiC), with similar metal-like plasticity above 900-1000 ° C (brittle-to-ductile transition temperature).
