OBJECTIVE: To observe and record the electrophysiological characteristics of neurons involved in the transmission of spinal dorsal horn and nociceptive information, and to provide electrophysiological indicators for studying the modulation of pain and pain. Methods: The spinal cord dorsal horn neurons were induced by percutaneous electrical stimulation. The glass microelectrodes were recorded extracellularly. The discharge activities of neurons related to noxious electrical stimulation were observed and input into the oscilloscope and computerized. RESULTS: Two types of discharges were induced in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord - two strings of discharges and a long series of discharges - with supra-threshold electrical stimulation of excited C-fibers. Two strings of discharges include early string discharge and late string discharge. Late evening discharge in the evening series often show “wind up” phenomenon. Conclusion: The activity of late discharge is closely related to the infiltration of nociceptive information. The discharge frequency can be used as a pain index to study the inhibitory effects of pain modulation.
