本文作者王铭慎的身份，整理者已经在所整理发表的《最近盐场录》（载《盐业史研究》２０００年第３期）一文前按语中加以说明，这里不再赘述。本文《历代盐法源流考》，是王铭慎的又一篇遗稿。本稿原稿为线装，纸质黄，长２２．１厘米，宽１２．５厘米，厚０．７厘米。全文用毛笔竖行书写，讲究章法。字体为行草，字迹圆润，十分清晰。从内容看，作者对历代盐法作了十分详细的考证，是不可多得的研究盐业史的材料，至少是为以后的研究者提供了一条十分有价值的线索。本稿的整理主要是对原稿进行了语句标点，繁体字作简化处理，对异体字直接作了改动，极个别的地方可能是原作者书写有误或有漏，整理者则加夹注说明，其余一律仍原，以确保材料的原始性和可靠性。现发表出来，供研究者参考。
