Objective To evaluate the efficacy and significance of the first-stage functional reconstruction of metastatic cancer pathological fractures. Methods Twenty-two cases of pathological fractures were reconstructed by tumor resection and artificial prosthesis replacement, tumor segment resection by external fixators or prolongation of limbs, resection of tumors or partial resection of intramedullary nails or steel plates plus bone cement fixation. Results One-stage functional reconstruction was performed in 22 cases and the upper and lower extremities recovered after surgery. Pain disappeared in 20 cases and pain reduced in 2 cases. The patient’s mental status, mental status and appetite improved significantly. Nineteen patients were followed up, and the survival time was 3 to 36 months, with an average of 22 to 4 months. Conclusion This method can treat metastatic cancerous pathological fractures and restore limb function, eliminate pain, and improve the quality of life of patients.
