1948年,鉴于俄、日帝国主义侵略大连、旅顺的历史教训,苏联红军驻大连司令部和大连地方政府从特殊解放区的战略需要出发,通过工会,组织大连港铁(今大连海港)赴苏联金矿淘金回国的近千名工人,经过近一年时间的鲜为人知的极其艰苦的奋战,修筑了起始于马栏村,经张家村、棠梨沟村、岔鞍村,越过鞍子岭,直达旅顺的旅大中路。这条道路在群山密林中穿行,非常隐蔽。其东段,伴大西山水库、棠梨沟水库而行,路旁景色秀丽;其中段两侧,近年来已开发为国家森林公园。全路至今具有重要军事战略意义和促进大连地区经济发展的重大意义。
