For multimode airborne radars, many different processing functions must be done on the same digital hardware and must have great flexibility. A programmable signal processor (PSP) capable of computing 10 to 8 to 10 to 9 orders of magnitude per second meets these requirements. Here’s a PSP that uses a parallel processor connected to a very high speed bus and a bulk storage. These processors are different types and are adapted to play different roles. However, they have a common control structure and use the same accessories. These processors are controlled by a fast computer and the entire signal processor is controlled by a high-level language (HOL) data processor. The structure and technology used allow the formation of a complete signal and data processor with a performance of approximately 5 x 10 to 8 operations per second in a volume of 20 liters.
