The United States has developed a new completion technology that will increase the production of non-water-bearing crude oil above the water zone while excluding hydrocarbon impurities in the produced water. In oil and water zones, double-well completions are separated by a packer at the depth of the oil-water interface. The packer’s aquifer completions include a submersible pump and a drain hole that diverts the formation water around the well to prevent water coning from reaching the top oil hole.
