Symbol is used to refer to an object or a symbol of a spiritual content of the mark. On the one hand, it has the meaning of the carrier and the role of spiritual externalization; the other hand, it also has the perceived form of the objective existence. The art itself, as a symbolic language, has the task of transforming the emotions it wants to convey into an audible or visible artistic expression. Therefore, many artists try to imprint their works with their own “personal markings” during their artistic creation. In Zhang Xiaogang’s oil paintings, we can deeply feel that his works are like a mirror of time. By focusing on the life style and memory of a generation, we have carved out the symbolic features that belong to that era.
