Fetal or newborn pig thymus grafts can survive long-term in T-cell depleted thymus-bearing mice and support the normal development and differentiation of mouse T-cells, allowing recipients to re-establish recipient T-cell pools in the periphery. Mouse T cells matured in the heterologous porcine thymocytes have normal cellular immunity and are limited by the mouse’s own MHC. Therefore, xenotransplantation of thymus may provide new treatment for advanced AIDS patients or other immunodeficiency diseases caused by thymus, etc., or have some adjuvant therapy.
