From 1872 to 1881, the Qing government sent young children to the United States to study for a decade, which was described as “the founding act of China, nothing ancient or modern”. But why is it that the original planned 20-year education program was cut in half and the children withdrawn from the United States were all withdrawn? There are complex reasons behind this. Historical scholars generally believe this is because young children are younger, dyeing Western culture, causing the Qing government objected to conservative forces. Based on a brief review of the reasons for the withdrawal of young children from the United States and the United States, this paper argues that the inadequate cost of children’s education in the United States is also an important factor.
