For color LCD, LCD black and white is essential. In addition, ergonomic point of view black and white display readability (low read error rate, fatigue) is also ideal. Toshiba has succeeded in commercializing the M (monochrome) -ST LCD near ideal black and white display by superimposing a uniaxially stretched organic polymeric film on a liquid crystal cell to compensate for the optical path difference. The M-ST LCD retains the characteristics of the original ST LCD and responds fast at high contrast (15: 1) with excellent white background image quality. The TLX-1501-C 3 M is a transmissive M-STLCD module with 640 × 400 pixel, 1/200 duty cycle multiplexed drive with CCFL (Cold Cathode Tube) as the backlight. It is about 25% lighter and about 10% thinner than D (double-layer) -ST.
