湖北省老河口市自1989年被国家列入鄂北岗地重点开发地区以来,先后投入农发财政资金5414万元,改造中、低产田22万亩,建立农业综合开发项目区34个,收到较好的效果。该市立足岗地实际,着重抓了以下三项工作:一是水利建设,大、中、小相衔接,蓄、引、提相结合,使全市有效灌溉面积以每年2.5万亩的速度递增;二是集中人力、物力大打坡改梯攻坚战,同时配置机械,回填秸秆,改良土层,使土壤通透性明显提高;三是大搞林带和农田林网建设,形成林网网络1860个,整体防护面积达45万亩以上,农业生态环境得到明显改善。同时,该市注重农业综合开发,发展“一优两高”农业。一是普遍推广旱育秧和温室育秧。二是推广紧凑型玉米。三是利用沿河滩涂、低洼地开发鱼塘。四是实施“经济林果连片”、“庭院经济”、“菜篮子”工程开发,初步形成万亩汉江蔬菜林果走廊。 1989年以来.该市粮食由“吃供应”变为连年丰收自给有余。夏粮亩产跨入全国高产行列,多次获得省委、省政府夏粮“丰收杯”,农业部夏粮科技成果二等奖,先后受到国务院、湖北省政府的通报表彰
