与佛、道二教以“佛”或以“道”为基点的“三教融合”主张相呼应,柳宗元提出了以“儒”为基点的“三教融合”观。他不但明确提出了“三教融合”的原则与方向,而且建构起了三教关系张力下的宇宙本体论与“三教融合”视域中的心性论。柳宗元是唐代“三教融合”思潮中的儒家代表。他与佛教的宗密、道教的杜光庭并列为三,分别代表了各自立场之上“三教融合”的方向。
