I. INTRODUCTION Aluminum and aluminum alloys are sensitive to pitting corrosion in chloride solutions, especially in solutions containing metal ions such as copper, whose potential is corrected. In order to avoid this problem, various attempts have been made, but so far they have still not been completely solved. The effects of various added elements were investigated. The authors have found that adding a small amount of zinc in fact can significantly improve the pitting corrosion resistance of the aluminum alloy. In this report, the effect of zinc on aluminum-magnesium and aluminum-manganese-alloys is demonstrated by means of a soaking test and the relationship between this effect and electrochemical polarization measurements is discussed.
