The USAF’s last major electronic warfare program in the coming years, the B-1B Defense System Upgrade Program (DSUP), has cleared its initial acquisition hurdles and is now awaiting entry into the long-awaited Engineering and Manufacturing Development Phase (EMD). Last year, after a comprehensive and comprehensive study by Sanders, the prime contractor for B1B’s prime contractor Boeing Company (later Rockwell International) and the Integrated Defense Electronic Confrontation (IDECM) system, the U.S. Air Force considered that The system could be used for bombers, and by the end of March the DSUP was approved by the Joint Requirement Oversight Board and again in April by the Defense Acquisition Commission (DAB), clearing the way for the EMD contract to be released in June.
