The language of Taiwan is considered quite special among the various provinces in China. Taiwan does not have a native language. All the existing languages in Taiwan are brought together by immigrants. Even the South Island, now generally called “Indigenous Peoples,” migrated earlier from the South and South Seas of mainland China. Vocabulary is the most direct reflection of social culture. The production of new words always depends on the specific social background. Therefore, through these new words, we can see the different social aspects of the two sides of the Strait. After the opening up of exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, a comparative study of the vocabulary between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait has also emerged. These comparative studies provide a good sample of life for lexics, let us understand how words in the language are changing under different circumstances and how these changes interact and blend in each other’s interactions. We should do a thorough study of the homophony of both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Such words are the most likely to cause misunderstandings and distractions in cross-Strait exchanges. That is, the surface looks the same word, in fact, the meaning of the word is not exactly the same. Therefore, the phenomenon of homonymy is worth the attention and research of the lexicon, whose significance exceeds that of the words in the two sides of the Taiwan Strait that have the same meaning and different meanings.
