Chinese scientists used a combination of ultra-high-vacuum cryogenic scanning tunneling microscopy and image simulation to determine the first adsorption site on the Si surface of carbon monolayers in the world for the first time. This indicates that the identification problem of single molecules with three-dimensional structure such as “football molecule” adsorbed on the solid surface can be solved, providing the basis for single molecule manipulation and in-depth understanding of surface chemistry and surface physics.
