She wrote a series of novels for children and teenagers, the most famous being “When Marnie Was There.” “Memory of the Marnie,” published in 1967, and finalists Carnegie’s Literature Award. Hayao Miyazaki, a well-known Japanese anime director, included the book in the 50 most recommended novels for children. The novel tells the story of Anna, the lonely and painful lonely young girl who has been abandoned and fond of love, losing her love and finally finding her love again in real life. The whole novel is fluent in language, with nuanced descriptions of people’s mental activities and scenery, giving the reader an immersive feeling.
