胡适有两个儿子,大儿子叫胡祖望,二儿子叫胡思杜。1938年,胡适出任中华民国驻美国大使,第二年将大儿子胡祖望送到美国康乃尔大学读书,1941年5月将二儿子胡思杜送到美国教会学校海勿浮学院学习历史。1942年9月8日,胡适辞去驻美大使一职准备回国,两个儿子也要随他回国,国民政府遂为父子三人拨付了回国旅费,每人2000元,共6000元。胡适
Hu Shih has two sons, his eldest son Hu Zuwang, his son Hu Hudu. In 1938, Hu Shih served as the ROC ambassador to the United States. The following year, his eldest son, Hu Zuxuan, was sent to study at Cornell University. In May 1941, his second son, Husseitou, was sent to learn history in the United States Church School, Hai Boyu College. On September 8, 1942, Hu Shi resigned from his post as ambassador to the United States and returned with his two sons.
