Herzog, a famous American Jewish writer and 1976 Nobel Prize winner Saul Bellow, was bestseller at that time. Some critics praised it for building a great anti-hero hero, and said with no regret that Bellow failed to shape the female figure. Some critics even think that in the works of Saul Bellow, women tend to be avatars of maddening incarnations, which make people feel that the images of women are not reliable. His description of women is extreme. The author believes that Bellow’s description of the female is not only not a failure, on the contrary he broke the Jewish man’s pen, the kind of traditional Jewish female image, giving these women a new image. This article analyzes the new image of Jewish women by Bellow in the case of Madeleine, one of the major female figures in Herzog.
