用炮火轰燃的圣火第14届奥运会1948年在英国伦敦举行。当时希腊的人民军占领着奥林匹亚这个地方,为了能使奥运会如期举行,英国政府以点燃火炬为由,竟命令海军舰队驶抵伯罗奔尼撒本岛附近的海域,开炮向人民军的阵地猛轰,随后又派军队占领了奥林匹亚,然后按传统仪式点燃了奥林匹克的接力火炬。火炬虽然点燃,奥运会也如期举行,但在奥运会历史上却留下了不太光彩的一面,所以后人称这届奥运会的火炬是用“炮火轰燃”的。奥运会圣火被愉窃奥林匹克章程规定:奥运会的圣火必须在奥运会闭幕时熄灭。可是,1964年日本东京第18届奥运会的圣火,当时曾被人偷走了,并且在这届奥运会结束后依然燃烧了近20年,盗走圣火的人是日本一家公司的经理竹内先生。圣火一直在日本鹿儿岛他家中的前厅供着燃烧不息。
