The “middle income trap” is a concept put forward by the World Bank in its “East Asian Economic Development Report” in 2006. It refers to a state in which, when the per capita income of a country reaches a middle level in the world, the failure to smoothly carry out the transformation of the mode of economic development leads to the lack of new growth momentum and eventually the stagnation of the economy. Its basic performance is: economic growth has come down or stagnated, employment difficulties, the polarization between rich and poor, multiple corruption, social unrest and so on.
