Hylemya platura (Meigen) is a small, 4-6 mm, body color dark gray flies belonging to the genus Diptera, the family Muscidae, the egg, larvae (maggots), pupae (pupae) and Four adult worms, the larvae also known as root maggots. Occurred in the cotton fields in northern Jiangxi often severely intermittent occurrence of cotton sowing and seedling stage is one of the major pests. Often bore into cottonseed and seedlings rhizomes, resulting in serious rotten seeds, dead seedlings, lack of strains broken ridge phenomenon, and even overturned heavy seedlings, a great threat to the whole plant seedlings. For this reason, we have conducted some observational studies on gray fly flies intermittently since 1965. The preliminary results will now be compiled as follows for reference.
