裘帕·拉希里的短篇小说《不适之地》讲述了一位父亲前去女儿家探访所引起的疏离、怀疑和谅解的故事。在主人公的家庭里,父亲是印度主流父权的代表,在他与妻子、情人和女儿的互动中,可以窥见印度父权社会对女性不同程度的压迫。同时,本文还将通过对小说中三位印度女性形象的剖析,揭示男权统治下女性身上不同程度的女性意识。
Qupa Rasheli’s short story, Discomfort, tells the story of the alienation, suspicion and understanding that a father made when visiting her daughter’s home. In the hero’s family, the father is the representative of the mainstream patriarchy in India. In his interaction with his wife, lover and daughter, one can see the repression of different levels of women in the Indian patriarchal society. At the same time, this article will also reveal the female consciousness of women in different degrees under the patriarchal power through analyzing the three Indian women in the novel.
