家有三层基本含义:居处(house)、人之聚居之处(home)、生活生产共同体(fami-ly)。其生成过程体现了古代中国人文精神觉醒的两次飞跃:由混沌未分的自然世界到人意识到人类自身与自然界的分别;由孤立的人类世界到人们意识到自身、内部共同体与外在世界的分别。通过对“国家”和“诸子百家”等词义的考察,我们可以看到,家的语用意义的丰富和发展体现了古代中国人文精神的第三次飞跃:在分别之中追求同一性;在同一性之中追求个体的价值实现;追求自我与世界融合的境界。这种融合不是对人类原初混沌状态的回归,而是在明确人与自然、个人与社会、个别与整体之分别的前提下,认识到自我与世界的同一性。传统人文精神的每一次飞跃都不是对旧义的否定,而是扬弃,对思考当今世界文明的发展路向也有启发意义。
