通过自建《六祖坛经》汉英平行语料库,对《坛经》最早的两个英译本,即黄茂林译本与德怀特.戈达德(Dwight Goddard)译本从词汇、句子和篇章等层面的比较分析,发现两个译本均呈现不同程度的显化共性,但黄译倾向于忠实中文原本,而戈译则更多地体现了译者对文本的操纵。译者不同的翻译目的以及身处的社会大环境是造成两个译本差异的主要原因。
Through the self-built parallel corpus of Chinese and English of the Analects of Confucius, two of the earliest English translations of The Book of Odes, namely Huang Maolin’s translations and Dwight Goddard’s translations, are found in words, sentences and passages The comparative analysis shows that both translations have different manifestations in common, but Huang translation tends to be faithful to the original Chinese while the translation of G translation embodies the translator’s manipulation of the text more. The translator’s different purposes of translation and the social environment in which he lives are the main causes of the differences between the two versions.
