唐英,字雋公,沈阳人,雍正乾隆间在九江关、景德镇督造瓷器,前后达二十七年之久。他深谙土脉火性,精于仿古。经长期监制,多种釉色超过历史最高水平,为我国陶瓷艺术作出重大贡献。著有《陶冶图》、《陶人心语》等。五十年代,发现石雕人物,疑为唐英小像,为撰写说明,收入拙作《雕刻集影》中。惟直至近日始能断定像主人确是唐英。使古代工艺家能有形神逼肖的写真传世,自属可喜。因重写说明,叙述查考此像经过于下:
