晚清至本世纪初中国油画肖像从一开始就受雇干两项工作:为宫廷王族画像和赚钱。后一项工作开始干清乾嘉年间,前一项工作则要更早一些。两者的劳动主体完全不一样,前者多为西洋的天主教传教士,后者则是最早去欧美学习油画的中国画家,如关作霖、关乔昌等。在早期的油画肖像上,我们可以发现很多有趣的事情。比如,这两类工作的主体是互换的:在前者,劳动主体是隐匿的,被画面上的帝王
Late Qing Dynasty to the beginning of this century, China’s oil painting portraits from the very beginning were hired to do two jobs: the portrait of royal court and make money.
