清光绪二十九年 (1 90 3年 )夏 ,美国年轻画家卡尔 (清译柯尔乐 ,Miss KatherineA.Carl)由美国驻华公使康格的夫人引荐 ,在颐和园为慈禧绘画肖像。画像完成后 ,于光绪三十年运至美国圣路易斯博览会上展出 ,让世人第一次目睹了清朝皇太后的仪容。圣路易斯博览会结束后 ,清政府将该画像赠与美国。现从馆藏外务部全宗档案中选出相关史料予以刊布 ,供研究参考。——编选者 王玲
Twenty-nine years Guangxu (1903) summer, the United States young artist Karl (Qing Korole, Miss KatherineA.Carl) was introduced by the wife of the US ambassador Conger, the portrait of the Empress in the Summer Palace. After the portraits were completed, they were shipped to the St. Louis Fair in the United States for thirty years, allowing the world to witness the appearance of the Empress Dowager Qing Dynasty for the first time. After the St. Louis Fair ended, the Qing government presented the portrait to the United States. Relevant historical materials are now to be published from the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for reference. - Editor Wang Ling
