分析了美国《工程索引》（Ｅｉ）所用的新旧检索词典的特征，说明了Ｅｉ原用标题词检索语言向叙词语言变革的必要性；并说明了新检索词典的结构组成及应用方法。
The characteristics of the old and new search dictionaries used in the “Engineering Index” (Ei) in the United States are analyzed. The necessity of using the original title word retrieval language to translate the thesauri language is illustrated. The structure and application of the new retrieval dictionary are also illustrated.
