If you look closely, you will find that in the 20th century Chinese literature, especially in the Chinese science and technology literature, the name of the species is involved, usually after the Chinese name. Regrettably, this fine tradition was not inherited in the first round of new chronicles of the second half of the 20th century, causing western sinologists to read China’s new chronicles and say they have backed back at least 50 years. Although this assessment is too biased towards the new chronicles, why the new chronicles so impressed international scholars has to arouse the thinking of Chinese chronicles.
