CMC 体制是现代绿肥耕作制的简称。它的内容是用绿肥和粮食作物或经济作物进行间、套、插、混作,并用绿肥盘青做追肥利用,大致相当于一般所谓的粮肥间作制,但粮肥间作这个名称不能反映它的全部内容,为简便起见,用几个字母表示,称它为 CMC 体制,字母 C 表示农作物,M 表示绿肥,CM 表示半绿肥作物。CMC 体制广泛的利用绿肥和农作物组成粮肥共生的复合群体,这种土地利用方式是在我国古老的农作物间、套、混作基础上发展起来的,反映了在耕地资源全部被利用以后,农业生产向纵深发展,在多熟制条件下如何维持土壤系统生态稳态的要求。实践己经表明, CMC system is short for modern green manure system.
