President Kennedy’s visit to Europe in 1963, culminating in his visit on June 26. On that day he stood in front of the Berlin Wall and declared: “Ich bin ein Berliner” - “I am a Berliner.” His speech begins with the following sentence: “Two thousand years ago, the proudest boast was ’Civitas Romanus sum’ (we are Roman citizens) ’Today, the world’s most proud boast is’ Ich bin ein Berliner’. ” This sentence, now also become a favorite New Berliner favorite words.
