According to a recent Forrester Research survey, more Europeans use the Internet at home rather than in work, but in contrast, only a few people make purchases online. A July survey in the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden showed that web surfers are hungry for information and news but have yet to trust enough about consumer spending. However, Forrester’s European operations president, Emily Green, told e-commerce companies that the picture is changing rapidly. At a seminar in England, Green told senior marketers and advertising agency executives that Europe’s digital customers are rapidly marching online and she wants retailers to be prepared to meet their needs. The Internet is rapidly moving towards universalization of equipment and will become a fundamental aspect of everyday life. For businesses, the key is that you have to get information through multiple platforms. In that case there will be more diversity in terms of access to nodes such as digital television, teletext, personal computers and telephones.
