在戏剧文物类型中,与文字类文物相比较,戏剧图像的价值在于其具有超越语言抽象性的具象性;针对演出场所戏台建筑而言,可以平面展现演出场景,呈现演出瞬间的横截面。文献记录明确的戏剧图像内容确定,可以作为戏剧研究的直接证据,洪洞水神庙“大行散乐忠都秀在此作场”图可为充分例证。而运用“无题”戏剧图像进行学术研究,考订其图像内容、性质为进行阐释研究的前提,“徐扶明之问”直击问题结点。解决这一问题要内、外证据相结合,内证方面为以图证图:借助现存的具有直接相似性的同类图画作为类推依据;外证方面以文证图,综合分析传世文献记载以与图像之间建立合理的逻辑关系。对韩休墓壁画中所谓唐代“踏摇娘”图画研究的反思,可作为上述方法实践的示例。
