Cyclosporine A (CSA) is an effective immunosuppressant that inhibits the proliferation of active T cells and prevents them from producing interleukin 2 (IL-2). It has been reported that treatment of psoriasis with CSA is effective. Psoriasis is characterized by hyperproliferation of the epidermis. Many of the mechanisms of action for psoriasis-effective drugs are antiproliferative.
